Welcome to Colourful Plate
Thanks for taking the time to read something I’m passionate about .. Nutritious FOOD!
Food – we all love it. It brings people together from all cultures, ages and genders, where we share meals with family and friends. I’d like to welcome you to “Colourful Plate”. My blog is about sharing and inspiring people to eat well and nourish their body to radiate good health. I like to say “Colour your plate like a rainbow”.
Who is Natty?
I really enjoy cooking and developing recipes to share with my family and friends. I’ve always tried to eat healthy but more recently became passionate about wholesome, nutritious food and understanding how the food we choose to eat affects our health, energy and mood. When I look back at the way I ate, I was influenced by the marketing hype of low fat this, low fat that. I remember both my Dad and Aunty both telling me to include oils in my diet, to have full fat products, as the low fat contained sugars, however I didn’t listen. It is only now since I did my own research that I realised what my Dad and Aunty have been telling me was what was right. I guess it’s the phrase we hear all the time – “listen to your elders”! If you think about it, it’s true when you look back in time and see our grandparents and great grandparents eating most foods in their natural state – not processed foods, they had much better health than we do now.

Where did this love of food start from?
There are a few situations that led me on this journey, however first I’d like to ask you “Who inspires you in your life?” Someone you admire? That person for me is my Dad. He has taught me many things in life but one of the greatest gifts he has given me was to teach me how to cook.
Growing up I watched my dad create amazing dishes. He brings family and friends together and shares his love of cooking, with people always wanting to go back for more. You can see and taste his meals are made with love and that he has also passed onto me. To ensure I could start making his delicious meals, I would always have my little notebook and pen ready to write down the recipes as he prepared them. From there I grew my passion for cooking and healthy eating. One of my favourite quotes that best describes my Dad is “ My Father didn’t tell me how to live, he lived and let me watch him do it” Author – Clarence B Kelland.

Developing the concept of “Colourful Plate”
Colourful plate was brought to life, as I love making my plate colourful. Both for the visual look and knowing I am having a variety of nutrients at each meal. I have done quite a bit research and found that food really is your medicine. I don’t follow any specific diets or count calories. I just ensure I eat a variety of colourful, wholesome and nutritious meals. I still believe you need to have your favourite treats and mine is chocolate, so I sneak that in too. I have learnt that I can make a lot of nutritious food without it seeming like a ‘diet’ as some people call it. It’s more a way of living. There a lot of treats you can make that don’t contain refined sugars or certain flours that would normally spike your blood sugar levels. I’ll share these with you in my recipes section.
The other factor that influenced my eating habits was my little puppy Monty. No I didn’t change to dog food haha. There is a whole story to Monty, so I will share this with you in the coming weeks.
I hope you can start to share in my passion for healthy cooking and join me in this journey. I want to inspire others to cook wholesome meals that taste delicious too. I will share healthy recipes with you and hopefully it will give you the inspiration to choose foods that nourish your body. There are no diets, no calorie counting, just eat real, wholesome food and you will feel a difference. Listen to your body and just enjoy your food. We are here to learn and teach others and enjoy what we eat.
